A Heartfelt Message from Clinical Director, Erica Thiessen
Recently, while driving through Portland, I noticed a doorway adorned with a quote by Carl Rogers: “What you are to be, you are now becoming.” It stopped me in my tracks. As we move through this [holiday] season, this idea has stayed with me—how we show up in the present moment shapes the future we’re building.
As coaches and as humans, we are on this journey together. The way we show up in each moment matters. Every choice we make and action we take is a step toward what we are becoming. In a world often focused on what’s next, it’s easy to forget that the foundation of our future is laid in the present. Who we are now is not separate from who we are becoming—it’s deeply intertwined.
Reflecting on the past year, I feel a deep sense of gratitude for the challenges and successes we’ve experienced. We have grown as a company, refined our coaching approach, and witnessed inspiring strides toward independence by our coaching participants. We are proud to be one of the first coaching companies accredited by The Joint Commission, and to have become full members of the Young Adult Transitions Association (YATA).
More than anything, I’ve cherished witnessing the growth that happens when we show up authentically and with presence. At LifeTutors, this value of honoring the process is central to our work. It’s not just about reaching a destination but about being present with each step, embracing the journey, and recognizing how we’re shaping the future together. This is true for us as individuals, as a team, and in the work we do with families and communities.
As we move forward, I want to say thank you. Thank you for walking this path with us and for being part of the process. What we are to be is already becoming in each of us, right now. Let’s continue this journey with gratitude and intention, knowing that the present moment is where growth begins.
