Mickayla Smith

B.A. Psychology QMHP

Mickayla attended Brevard College, earning a B.A. in Psychology in 2021.

After some time working in jobs that did not suit her desire to serve her community, Mickayla began her direct care career at a residential treatment center for teenagers. This experience taught her a lot of herself, and she was able to see her work become action. After a while, Mickayla wanted to serve a wider range of people and now currently works with adults. Working in direct care can be difficult, but it is work she is proud to do. She found a calling that a lot of people find overwhelming to answer. At some point, she would love to take her experience into graduate school, but for now, she feels like she is in the right place coaching folks.

Mickayla draws from both professional and personal experience to connect with individuals navigating challenging circumstances. She utilizes SMART goals, trauma-informed care, and executive functioning strategies to support meaningful, sustainable progress. Mickayla’s approach focuses on helping clients build confidence, resilience, and a growth mindset by identifying and reframing limiting beliefs. She integrates practical life skills with personal development, guiding clients in creating routines, preparing for interviews, strengthening professional abilities, and managing daily responsibilities with clarity and intention. Mickayla supports clients in improving communication, navigating conflict, and clarifying their values in relationships, while taking a holistic approach to overall well-being. She does all of this with compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of safety, while gently challenging clients to grow and show up more fully for themselves. By addressing multiple areas of life, she fosters balanced, long-term growth and encourages clients to step outside their comfort zones, explore new experiences, and actively engage in their communities.

Mickayla practices what she preaches. So, when Mickayla isn’t at work or helping clients, she finds time to rest and play. Mickayla loves cats, and makes time to take care of her elderly cat. She also enjoys crocheting, singing, playing video games, cleaning her home, gardening, and going on walks/hikes.

Mickayla gives people a helpful push in the direction of their goals. However, she also has the honor of learning along side her clients. Mickayla gives thanks to this career path she is currently on by helping her understand what is important to her. Mickayla now has a degree and a QMHP certification through her work in mental health.
