Josh Gorelick

Josh earned a bachelors degree in psychology from Northeastern University and earned his masters degree in clinical mental health and counseling from Western Carolina University. Josh started his career working as a field guide and later a therapist in wilderness therapy with adolescents struggling with mental health and behavioral issues. Josh also worked at a sober living and intensive-outpatient facility for young men, as well as a substance abuse treatment program at a VA hospital.

In 2022, Josh launched his private therapy practice Take Action Counseling, where he supports men with mental health challenges on both an individual and group level. Josh works with individual adults, adolescents, and groups. He uses his authenticity, relationship, and ability to help folks heal, define their values, and show up in the world as the best version of themselves. Josh is passionate about fatherhood and loves to support both new and seasoned fathers on navigating the challenges and rewards of fatherhood. Josh also loves to support people in navigating ADHD and executive functioning struggles. Diagnosed himself in the 3rd grade, Josh knows what it is like to struggle with executive functioning challenges and enjoys connecting with others around these challenges and ways to “hack” our brain to thrive with ADHD.

When Josh is not working with his participants or providing therapy in his practice, you can find him playing with his daughter Norah, fly fishing the rivers and streams of Western North Carolina, hiking with his wife Emily and blue heeler Jasper, cheering on the Panther’s (unfortunately), playing golf, and reading sci-fi and fantasy novels. Josh is a self-described nerd and loves games like Magic the Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons, and other table top roleplaying games.

In a professional setting, Josh has had a lot of success in supporting individuals at working towards their goals and living their values. Josh has done this in many roles and settings achieving a reputation in the community as the guy to help the men in your life. In a personal setting, Josh is proud of his relationships, his family, his contributions to the city of Charlotte, and most of all his success at letting his friends and family know that they can always count on him to be a constant support in their lives.
