Anthony Freeman

MSW, LCSW, LCAS, MAC, CCS, RYT

Anthony attended North Carolina A&T State University where he earned his Bachelor's of Social Work, BSW and his Master's of Science in School Counseling. Anthony has witnessed and experienced moments in his life that led him to the helping profession. As a child he was exposed to volunteer work in his community and other surrounding areas. This exposure taught him the importance of being of service. This helping nature also continued through secondary and post-secondary education. Anthony was a part of student government and volunteered as a peer mentor. He later decided to major in social work after being inspired by his former scout master who worked as a professional social worker. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he continued his volunteering experience within the greater Greensboro area.

Education has always been important to Anthony. He believes that learning is a continuous process, and everyone can learn. This not only includes academic education, but lessons from just living. He has carried this belief as he has worked in the Social Work profession and in the education world. While working as a social worker, Anthony worked with clients with developmental and cognitive disabilities. His clients were male and female and ranged in age 18-71. As a school counselor, Anthony has worked with students from the ages of 4-19. Anthony says that what he enjoys most about this work is the positive impact that it can have on a child. Also in his work, he connects with students socially and emotionally. Once trust has been established, the real work can begin. Anthony’s approach is to treat individuals with equal respect, integrity, and autonomy.

When working with individuals, Anthony makes sure to understand what the person wants. With this insight, Anthony will assist the individual with creating realistic goals and the process of how to reach them. He makes sure to include all necessary parties that will be integral with achieving the goal. Anthony has been successful with working with young adults with their career interests, conflict resolution, decision making, organizational skills, life skills and anger management.

Outside of work, Anthony enjoys anything that is fun.  He feels anything can be fun if the mood is right and the right mix of people is around. Spending time with his family and friends is very necessary for him.  Other interests include trips/vacations, music, and learning.

Anthony has been nominated twice by his district for the honorable “Counselor of the Year” award; once for his work as a high school counselor and once for his work as a middle school counselor. He also started a successful mentoring group at his school. With the help of current undergraduate and graduate students from the Greensboro area, the mentoring program works with targeted students on personal goals, academic goals, and post-secondary school planning. He continues to want to learn more about the world and its people, and has decided to eventually further his education. A quote that Anthony has posted in his work office and lives by is “An effort made for the happiness of others lifts us above ourselves”.
